Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965) was the prime minister of the United Kingdom. He had served the country for many years. It took Churchill three times to pass the entrance exam for a famous military college. After graduation, he worked as a soldier as well as a journalist. While he was fighting in different parts of the world, he sent war reports to a newspaper publisher and wrote books about the wars. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953.

During World War II, Hitler was determined to take over all Europe. Churchill made public speeches which gave hope to his people. At the end, the British and their allies won the war. He is regarded as an excellent leader.

''Well'' is used at the beginning of a sentence usually because the speaker has not finished thinking about what to say. It is also used to show surprise, disagreement, doubt or anger.

e.g. Well, I can't really remember.
