“ Eason: When I was small, I liked playing in the drain. Oops, I mean, in the rain. ”

“ Eason: Oh, I'm sorry. It was just a Freudian slip. Let me continue my story. ”

“ Bill: What's a Freudian slip? ”

“ Dr Panda: Freud was a famous psychologist. A Freudian slip is a verbal mistake which may show the inner thought of the speaker. ”

◆Know more

Sigmund Freud (佛洛伊德,1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and psychologist. He was the founding father of psychoanalysis(精神分析學), which is a method for treating mental illness. He is still one of the most influential psychologists to this day.

As a medical student at the University of Vienna, he focused on the study of the human brain and studied a vast variety of topics in psychology. They include dreams, memory, personality development, motivation, the unconscious mind, etc. He was so interested in human behavior that he spent most of his life studying it. With his hard work, he developed theories which explain human behaviour. Although his theories were not supported by other scientists at the beginning, he attracted a number of followers who agreed with him. Some of his followers later became very successful psychologists too.

■English highway﹕To this day

''To this day'' means ''until now'' or ''even now, after a long time''.

e.g. The church was built in 1889 but it remains intact to this day.

To this day, I still do not know what exactly happened on that day.
