Talk of the town：Fun Sports Festival Came to Chengdu for the first time
【明報專訊】The World Games, a quadrennial gathering of athletes from around the world, took place from August 7 to 17 in Chengdu this year, marking China's first hosting of the event.
How do the World Games differ from the Olympics?
Both events are grand stages for athletes worldwide. While the Olympics represent the pinnacle of traditional and widely recognized sports, the World Games provide a unique platform for lesser-known sports to shine. For instance, sports like bowling, cheerleading and flag football (腰旗美式足球), which are not contested in the Olympics, was featured prominently in the 2025 World Games.
In the World Games 2025, Hong Kong participated in sports such as karate, wushu, air sports, and waterski, earning three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
