Polar Circle Marathon

The Polar Circle Marathon, often referred to as "the Coolest Marathon on Earth", takes place in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (®æ³®Äõ). The race is held north of the Arctic Circle, making it far more demanding than usual marathons. Runners run on gravel, ice and even snow depending on weather conditions. The ice can be very slippery even when covered by a thick layer of snow. The race has been held annually in October since 2001 with temperatures generally hovering around -10 to -15 ¢J.
