Ping-pong diplomacy (乒乓外交) — It refers to a series of exchanges between table tennis players of the US and the People's Republic of China in the early 1970s. In April 1971, members of the American table tennis team, accompanied by journalists, became the first Americans to visit China officially since the Communist Party of China (中國共產黨) took power in 1949. The visit paved the way for the normalisation of Sino-US relations.
