Q: There were a lot of comments that claimed we should not hold an election during a pandemic. However, the US successfully held their presidential election last year, Canada will have its Federal election in mid-September, are there parallels? What are your thoughts on holding an election at these testing times¡H

A:80% of Canadians have done the right thing, they've got themselves vaccinated. Because they have done the right thing, I think it is right that we check in at a time of some really big decisions.

As you can see, different parties have very different ideas on how we move forward, how we end the pandemic, and how we build back better. Canadians deserve to make that choice, because we know that ending this pandemic is incredibly important, and it happens now in the coming months, not a year from now or two years from now.

That's why Canadians should get to choose right now.

Q: What are your thoughts on the most recent poll¡H

A: I think it really highlights that there is a clear choice in this election. People are looking at different ways at moving a country forward and this is a healthy thing in a democracy.

The reality is those choices that Canadians are making couldn't be clear right now.

The Conservatives have said that they will bring back assault weapons that we banned, they are going to eliminate the $10 a day childcare agreement that we signed across the country and not sign anymore which we know will make a huge difference, not just for families but also for economic growth as well, because more women will be able to get into the workforce.

They are not even strong on vaccines.

All my candidates are vaccinated, I have said that we need to have mandatory vaccination on planes, trains and in the public services. We are working on vaccine passports with the provinces.

Erin O'Toole wouldn't even make sure his candidates are vaccinated, and there is nothing on people on planes and trains that should be vaccinated. That's not how we get through this pandemic.

If we don't get through this pandemic, we don't get to do the other things that I know people want to do once we get out of this.

Q: You met a lot of anti-vaxxer protests during the campaign. Is this indicative of your government's success in vaccine policy, which forced these anti-vaxxers to take extreme routes to voice their messages? What would you tell them if they start to harass those that were vaccinated?

A: They have been harassing people that are vaccinated, they have been harassing healthcare workers who ironically are working incredibly hard to treat people who didn't get vaccinated who have COVID and in ICU. It is unfortunately a fringe population of people who don't believe in science, who don't believe in protecting other Canadians.

And quite frankly, while the Conservatives want to respect the freedom of choice for anti-vaxxers to not get vaccinated, my focus is on respecting your choice ¡V Canadian's choice who want to get back to life, who chose to get vaccinated, who don't think their kids should be vulnerable if they are sitting in a plane across from an anti-vaxxer.

If you don't want to get vaccinated, that's your choice. But we are not going to let you on a plane, or train, or not able to work on the federal public service; and increasingly by working with the provinces on vaccine mandates and certification, people who aren't vaccinated will have a hard time going to restaurants, going to gym, and going to a movie theatre.

And that is the leadership we need to get through this.

Unfortunately, just like Erin O'Toole couldn't stand up to the gun law, he can't stand up to the anti-science, anti-vaxxer in his party and say, well no, everyone needs to get vaccinated.

Q: What will Sino-Canadian relationship be like if your party gets re-elected?

A: We will continue to understand that China is a growing power in the world, and you can't pretend it is not there. There are some areas that we are going to cooperate with China ¡V fight with climate change for example, where everyone has to be part of it.

There are areas in which we are going to compete with China: on economics, on investment, on growth ¡V we will actually do that.

But there are areas where we have to challenge China, on human rights, on arbitrary detention, making sure they are sending the Michaels home as soon as possible remains one of our top priorities.

We are going to be able to stand up against Hong Kong, on the South China Sea, on the protection of the Uyghurs.

We will continue to speak loudly and strongly no matter how much the Chinese government tells us that we shouldn't have an opinion on that.

The international community and Canada have a strong part of it, and we will continue to be very clear.

Q: To those who are undecided, why Liberal, why Trudeau?

A: We had people's back during the pandemic, we were there with small business support, we were there with the CERB, we were there with investments supporting people fighting anti-racism, doing the things to make sure we got through this pandemic.

And now we have to do even more, we have to step up the fight against climate change, realizing that¡¦s how we are creating good jobs for a stronger future.

We have to support young people, support our seniors, we have to keep investing in the future of this country, and we are the only ones with real and serious plans to do that.

Conservatives put out their platform, but they didn't even cost it, there is no dollar figure to be associated with their promises. So they actually are not serious about their platform.

We are the ones with a plan and the ability to continue to deliver with a strong team, including 9 Chinese Canadian candidates across the country, 6 of whom are in the GTA, including extraordinary leaders like Minister Mary Ng, who has done a great job and will continue to.

When people look at the leader, they can see that we are stronger; but when people look at the team as well, you see our team and you don't actually see what the other team looks like, because they are not showing any strength in their bench.
