【明報專訊】Do you know what a time capsule is? Have you ever wanted to bury one for the future? In this vast world, there are time capsules designed to be opened after an incredibly long period. Where are they hidden?

Japan -Time capsule Expo'70

Two time capsules, jointly created by Panasonic and The Mainichi Newspapers, were buried near Osaka Castle during the closing ceremony of the 1970 World Expo.

Scheduled to be unveiled in 6970, each capsule contains 2,098 objects, including messages from world leaders, coins, stamps and other artefacts. In 2000, one capsule underwent inspection, revealing well-preserved items such as a functional rice cooker and television. This early examination showcased the project's success in preserving artefacts, emphasising a commitment to safeguarding history for future generations.

USA - Crypt of Civilization

Dr. Thornwell Jacobs, the president of Oglethorpe University, sealed the Crypt of Civilization on the school campus in 1940. Set to open in 8113, the time capsule preserves a comprehensive record of culture from the early 20th century. Jacobs aimed to surpass language and cultural barriers, leaving behind a lasting and meaningful contribution. As one of the earliest and most ambitious time capsule attempts, the crypt stands as Jacobs' innovative effort to provide future generations with insights into past civilizations.
