【明報專訊】When discussing Denmark, Hans Andersen (安徒生) and butter cookies spring to mind. Did you know Denmark is also famous for its architecture and furniture design?

Established in 1890, Designmuseum Danmark is a museum for design and crafts in Copenhagen (哥本哈根), and is dedicated to advancing Danish industrial products. In 1926, the museum moved into a former hospital. This rococo-style (洛可可風格) building exemplifies the lavish architectural design from 18th century Europe.

Flag's tale

The origin of the Danish flag is uncertain. Only legends remain. Some believe that the flag came into being as a sign from God when the Danish King Valdemar II waged a war against the Estonians (愛沙尼亞人) whom they had seen as heathens.

◆World Cup titbit

Kasper Schmeichel (卡斯柏舒米高) is a goalkeeper (守門員) who plays for Leicester City (李斯特城) in the Premier League. He has never played in a World Cup before, and is eager to see his dream come true. Interestingly, his father was also a goalkeeper who played for the national team; in fact, Peter Schmeichel was one of the players of Denmark's golden generation.
