【明報專訊】Do you have a competitive spirit? Are you fond of participating in diverse contests? Across the globe, there are numerous unique competitions attracting participants from different countries. Do you possess the required skills, or do you prefer to be among the spectators?

◆US - International Cherry Pit-Spitting Championship

The International Cherry Pit-Spitting Championship was held annually at a local farm. In 1974, it was created to bring in farmers and tourists during the annual cherry harvest. People from all over the world gathered to compete in this fun event, aiming to spit cherry pits as far as possible. Spitting cherry pits may sound simple, but it takes some skill. The longest spit ever was 28.51 metres by Brian Krause in 2004. Unfortunately, the championship ended in 2019 when the farm was sold. (See the picture A)

◆Canada -International Hair Freezing Contest

Since 2011, the famous Hair Freezing Contest has attracted global attention. Held annually at a resort, it is the only frozen-hairdo competition worldwide. Participants sit in a hot spring and let their wet hair turn white with frost and ice in cold air, which is at least -20℃. The cold temperatures allow hair to freeze in a minute and make zero-gravity hair possible. Even long, straight hair can stand up in the air. Winners are picked by the resort, with an online vote for a popular award. (See the picture B)

◆Scotland -World Stone Skimming Championships

The World Stone Skimming Championships in Scotland are renowned globally, drawing participants from various countries to a tiny island. Its scenic setting and distinctive atmosphere contribute to its popularity. Spectators gather to watch competitors skip stones across the water, aiming for distance. Factors like the throw angle and stone shape affect the outcome. It is not uncommon for winners to achieve distances well beyond 30 metres. Started in 1983, the event opens to all, regardless of age or skill level. (See the picture C)
