Cha chaan teng means ''tea restaurant''. It is a type of restaurant that originated in Hong Kong. They are commonly found in every neighbourhood. They provide affordable Chinese and Western food and efficient services. The waiters and customers use abbreviations to speed up the ordering.

The most famous dishes and drinks include egg tarts, pineapple buns, milk tea and yuenyeung. Hong Kong style milk tea and yuenyeung making techniques are now part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory of Hong Kong. A gourmet trip to Hong Kong is not perfect without visiting a cha chaan teng.

■English highway﹕Be not... without...

A double negative is the use of two negative words in the same sentence. It is used to place an emphasis on something. ''Be not... without...'' is used to emphasise the noun or action after ''without''.

e.g. He cannot live without his grandmother.

You will never get higher marks without studying hard.
