Talk of the town:Appreciate the natural beauty of Hong Kong
【明報專訊】There are plentiful plants in country parks, which add colour to the landscape of Hong Kong. Along Robin's Nest Country Park (紅花嶺郊野公園) located in Sha Tau Kok, there is silvergrass(芒草) in autumn and winter, which harmonize with the natural environment with its green and yellow colour.
The golden silvergrass in country parks is also ''instagrammable'', attracting people to take a photo with. It grows quickly and is resistant to pests and diseases.
Alongside the attractive silvergrass, there are also flowers that are worth our attention. Rose Myrtle (桃金娘), a type of flower with bright pink colour, can be found in Aberdeen Country Park. Its sweet and juicy fruits often attract birds and hikers to take a closer look because it can be eaten directly, or made into food jam! No doubt it is important for wild animals and birds, as it is one of their food sources.
When hikers go along the hike trails, it is easy to chance upon some animals. Along Lin Ma Hang Lead Mine in Robin's Nest Country Park, Lesser Bent-Winged Bats can be found. They have long and dense fur and can be commonly found at nighttime. The structure of their wings is very similar to our hands!
Apart from mammals, birds can also be found in country parks. In Shing Mun Country Park, Verditer Flycatchers (銅藍鶲) can be found. Characterized by their blue feather and bright blue tail, they are winter visitors to Hong Kong and are easily recognizable. They can also be found in Southeast Asia and the Himalayas, mainly in woodlands.
