【明報專訊】◆have your cake and eat it

It means you want to achieve two goals together. But it is impossible for them to happen at the same time.

e.g. If you want to do well in the exam, you need to play less and do revision — you can't have your cake and eat it!

◆the icing on the cake

It refers to an object or an event that makes something more wonderful or successful.

e.g. It is the icing on the cake that Pat's grandparents are at her birthday party.

◆cake sth with sth

It means to cover an object with something wet.

e.g. Bill's shoes are caked with mud.
