【明報專訊】Hilde Lysiak, an 8-year old American girl living in Pennsylvania (賓夕法尼亞州), has published her own newspaper Orange Street News (《橙街新聞》), which has more than fifty subscribers who shell out US$2 (around HK$15.6) for a year's subscription.

Hilde is the daughter of a former New York Daily News reporter, and the news business runs in her blood. While her father has agreed to do the typing, formatting and printing of Orange Street News, Hilde is responsible for all the reporting, writing and photography.

Hilde was soon showing up at borough council meetings by herself and biking around her 5,300-person town in search of breaking news. The biggest scoop she has uncovered so far is a tale about a barking dog breaking up a home burglary. "I asked for the address at the police station, and they wouldn't give it to me," Hilde said. "But I knocked on every block until I found the right one."

Hilde did not dream of becoming a reporter of any newspaper. "I don't want to work for another paper," said Hilde. "I want to have my own." Now living in a small town, Hilde wished to move to a big city like New York. "There's actually real news there - murders, crime," said Hilde. "The hardest thing about my paper is trying to get news." (source: Ming Pao, New York Daily News)
