Best known as Germany's first female chancellor (總理), she was named "Person of the Year" by the TIME magazine in 2015. She welcomed Syrian refugees (難民) migrating to Germany. She has earned herself the nickname "Mutti" ("mommy" in German).

She became the second female Prime Minister of the UK on 13 July 2016. She said after the referendum (公投) (which took place last June) the country was expected to leave the European Union (歐盟) by the summer of 2019.

She won the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize. A State Counsellor of Myanmar (緬甸), she is now the country's de facto (事實上的) head of government.

This year, she became the first woman to be elected as President of Taiwan. She had been a law professor at several universities in Taiwan until 2000. She joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) in 2004. She is known for her love of cats.
